Mobility is generally an ongoing issue for the elderly in our community. Elderly people may have issues of mobility regarding their physical ability to walk, drive or access public transport.
They may also have mobility issues in terms of limited access to transport options. Relatives or friends with cars are not always available and it may be difficult to access these cars if they’re not suitable for someone in a wheelchair. Taxis may not be a financially viable option.
Fortunately, an organisation such as Oxley Community Service exists, directly addressing the transport needs of the elderly living in the Tamworth and Liverpool Plains Shire localities.
With 30 years of experience, our not-for-profit organisation offers a fleet of wheelchair accessible buses, minibuses and service vehicles and is largely run by a dedicated team of fully-trained volunteer drivers.
The ethos of Oxley Community Transport Service is all about maintaining and improving independence for elderly people.
In this regard, a number of door-to-door services are offered, including:
Oxley Community Transport Service is more than a transport service. We are also about celebrating and building our community and providing a service that is sensitive to the needs of elderly people, from the care and compassion shown by our staff to the social support offered by our programs.
To become a client of our community transport service, you need to register with My Aged Care, which will then determine your eligibility based on your level of independence, existing support and whether you have any health concerns. We can make a referral to My Aged Care on your behalf or you can register via their website or by calling 1800 200 422.
